Our History, Traditions and Vision
Welcome to Buckley
As you embark on the wonderful experience of finding the best school community for your child and your family, let us answer some questions you might have about Buckley.
Buckley Country Day School was founded in 1923 and opened the doors of its first building in Great Neck to a class of twenty-three children. In 1955, as the school’s enrollment continued to increase, Buckley moved to its current location in the Village of North Hills in Roslyn.
Buckley Country Day School is incorporated and operated on a not-for-profit basis by an appointed twenty-three-member Board of Trustees. It is chartered by the Board of Regents of the University of the State of New York. The school is accredited by the New York State Association of Independent Schools and is a member of the National Association of Independent Schools.
Buckley is an independent, mission-driven, non-sectarian school which serves 340 boys and girls in toddler through eighth grade. Our school is small by design, which enables us to fulfill our mission and reach every child.
Our philosophy of education is traditional. We value character, effort and achievement. At the core of the school’s purpose is our desire to imbue our students with a life-long passion for learning and high standards of integrity. The school seeks to achieve its mission by providing the children with opportunities to explore and take risks within a safe and supportive environment.
Our Facilities
Buckley resides on a 25-acre campus that includes three beautiful athletic fields, tennis courts, and three playgrounds. The building houses all the classrooms, two science labs, two computer labs, an art studio, a woodshop, and three gymnasiums. Every classroom in grades 1-8 is equipped with SMART Board technology to enhance teaching and learning. The state-of-the-art Hagedorn Library Learning Center contains 16,500 volumes and is used extensively by our children, starting in nursery school.
