Head of Upper School – Grades 5-8
 
INSTRUCTIONAL LEADERSHIP The Head of Upper School is an instructional leader and a member of the senior administrative team. He or she reports directly to the Head of School.
 
OPERATION The Head of Upper School oversees all aspects of the operation of a grade 5-8 division of 130 students from diverse backgrounds, and twenty teachers. Effective communication to ensure that the “trains run on time” is essential. His or her primary focus is the academic direction of the division, as well as the ongoing development of an innovative curriculum driven by the school’s mission and commitment to excellence.
 
VISION The Head of Upper School, in collaboration with the faculty and the administrative team, develops a common vision for the division, aligned with the overall mission of the school. The Head of Upper School communicates that vision compellingly to rally teachers, students, and parents behind it. The Head of Upper School marshals the necessary resources to the successful execution of the vision for his or her division.
 
COMMUNITY WELL-BEING The Head of Upper School is in charge of the overall well-being of the upper school students and ensures that their evolving cognitive, intellectual, emotional, social, and physical needs are met. He or she creates exciting opportunities for the students to develop leadership, empathy, resilience, self-control, curiosity, agency, and open-mindedness. The Head of Upper School is a visible presence in the school, works towards creating a positive community, builds relationships with all constituencies based on trust, and fosters an inclusive environment where all are positioned to thrive.
 
PROFESSIONAL CULTURE The Head of Upper school leads, recruits, supports, evaluates, and seeks to retain an excellent team of teachers. He or she supports the professional growth of the faculty by modeling growth himself or herself, demonstrating a can-do, solution-oriented, intentional attitude, and providing exceptional professional development experiences.

5th & 6th Grade English Teacher

Buckley Country Day School is seeking a full-time English teacher for 5th and 6th grade students.

Responsibilities include:
  • Teaching 5th and 6th Grade English classes
  • Developing dynamic skills-based lessons
  • Focusing on core proficiencies of critical reading, analytical writing, and self-expression
  • Designing appropriate assessments to gauge comprehension
  • Incorporating a variety of pedagogical strategies to motivate middle school students
  • Differentiating instruction to engage all learners
  • Utilizing technological tools to enhance understanding
  • Fostering an inclusive and equitable classroom environment
  • Collaborating with colleagues on immersive projects and simulations
  • Serving as a grade-level advisor
Preferred qualifications include:
  • Masters degree
  • Experience teaching English and/or Language Arts
  • Knowledge and passion in the subject matter
  • Clear desire to work with Middle School students
  • Comfort in teaching via a virtual platform
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Interest in professional development
  • Desire to contribute to the whole school community
