As up-to-date official information becomes available about the coronavirus spread, we may have to put in place new protocols. With that in mind, I will follow the guidelines established by the CDC, the New York State Department of Health, and the Nassau County Health Department. The Nassau County Health Department has been very responsive to each of the calls I have made, and their guidance has been clear and decisive.
As of yesterday, a memo from the NYSDOH confirmed, in part, the following:
- Any U.S. citizen returning to the U.S. who has been in Hubei Province in the previous 14 days will be subject to up to 14 days of mandatory quarantine, to ensure they are provided proper medical care and health screening.
- Any U.S. citizen returning to the U.S. who has been in the rest of mainland China within the previous 14 days will undergo proactive entry health screening at a select number of ports of entry and up to 14 days of monitored self-quarantine to ensure they have not contracted the virus and do not pose a public health risk.
I am asking that you notify me immediately if your family has traveled to parts of China where a mandatory 14-day quarantine or monitored self-quarantine has been required, or if your family has been in contact with other family members, friends, child care providers, etc. who have traveled to China since the beginning of the outbreak.
Thank you for your assistance.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the families directly affected by this virus.
