Dear Parents, Faculty, and Staff,
I am writing to inform you that one of our students is being tested for COVID-19. The student in question left school on Friday, February 28 to travel to California for a family celebration. The child has not been back at school, nor been in contact with anyone else at school, since then. The child has no sibling attending Buckley, and no members of the family have been at school since then. The child developed a fever on March 11 and is now being tested. We will not know the outcome of the test for a few more days.
Out of an abundance of caution, I will be closing school tomorrow and Monday. After that, the building will remain closed, but classes in grades PreK-8 will resume on Tuesday, March 17, strictly in remote learning mode through Friday, March 20. As announced earlier, Toddlers and Nursery children will receive materials from their teachers. Mrs. Lyons and Mr. Hall will send detailed information on Sunday.
The week will allow us a chance to assess the next steps we need to take and to do a thorough cleaning of the whole building. Decisions regarding upcoming events are being considered, and I will communicate them with you next week.
I hope this advance notice will give everyone the opportunity to make appropriate arrangements ahead of time. If your child needs to pick up books, binders, iPads, or Chromebooks, the building will be open tomorrow Friday, from 9:00-12:00. There will be no access to the building past that time.
In the meantime, I invite our community to keep our young student and her family in our thoughts and prayers for a prompt recovery.
May we all find the resilience and mutual support we need to see us through these challenging times.
