July 18, 2019
As you know or may have heard, Mrs. Linda Bernard, our Head of Upper School, had to relocate unexpectedly at the end of June for personal reasons. While this was an unfortunate situation, I am delighted to announce that I have offered the position of Head of Upper School to Mr. Mercer Hall and that he has accepted. He will assume his new role this Monday.
Mr. Hall has been teaching 7th
grade history at Buckley since 2001 and over the
past 18 years, he has developed a stellar reputation as an outstanding teacher, a trusted student advisor, a collaborative colleague, and an active participant in many facets of our community.
Mr. Hall has earned many accolades at Buckley, including the Teacher of the Year Award (on multiple occasions), The Thomas J. Reid Excellence in Teaching Award, and The Powers Family Teacher Recognition Award. He has served on numerous committees and presented at many professional conferences on a variety of teaching topics. As a matter of fact, Mr. Hall is currently in Boston where he is presenting two workshops at the Building Learning Communities Education Conference.
Mr. Hall graduated Phi Beta Kappa, magna cum laude from Amherst College.
I have started to interview candidates for the position of 7th and 8th grade history teacher and will be able to make an announcement about this appointment soon. I know we will all miss the highly anticipated opportunity to have our children in Mr. Hall’s class, but please rest assured that he will closely oversee the transition of the new history teacher and serve as a mentor for his successor.
I have full confidence that Mr. Hall will bring both the management and leadership skills needed in the Upper School and look forward to working with him in his new capacity.
Please join me in congratulating Mr. Hall on his appointment as Buckley’s new Head of Upper School.
