Buckley Third Grader Celebrated as Published Author!

On Friday, March 25th Lower School students gathered for a special assembly to celebrate Buckley third grader and published author, Gabrielle Parchment, Class of 2027. Gabrielle’s parents, Nadene Watson and Karim Parchment, as well as big sister Danielle ’22, joined her at the assembly.

Two years ago in Mrs. Hillary Janik’s first grade class, Gabrielle penned a series of short stories centered on main character Lucy, and how she faced her fears to step outside of her comfort zone. Gabrielle and her family compiled these stories and published them as a book, titled “Lucy’s Great Adventures.”

The assembly opened with a few words from Head of Lower School, Mrs. Elizabeth Lyons, and from Lower School Reading Specialist, Mrs. Alana Gamber. Students submitted questions for Gabrielle in advance, which she answered live during the assembly.

Her peers inquired as to whether another book might be in the works, and Gabrielle indicated that she was open to the possibility! Gabrielle’s third grade classmates all took home a copy of her book, which is available for purchase on Amazon. You can also find Gabrielle’s book in Buckley’s Hagedorn Library and Learning Center – a gift from Gabrielle and her family.

Gabrielle dedicated the book to her older siblings, Danielle '22 and Ramon, to her parents, and to two of her former teachers at Buckley, Kindergarten teacher Mrs. Kathryn Downing, and first grade teacher, Mrs. Hillary Janik.

Congratulations, Gabrielle! Buckley is thrilled to recognize your hard work and creativity, and we thank you for sharing your talents with the Buckley community and the world through your beautiful book!
