Buckley Students Show Financial Savvy

Buckley Country Day School is proud to announce that its students took first place in the Stock Market Game for both the elementary and middle school divisions for the Long Island Region.
Fifth graders Vincent Rivellese, Lindsay Hsu, and Ariel Arad secured their win out of 114 teams in the elementary competition with a 6.94 percent gain over the S&P 500. In the middle school division, Emma Petruccelli, Michael Marrale, and Theodore Tsiamtsouris had an incredible 9.56 percent return on their portfolio to take first out of 133 teams. Both teams ranked in the top 2% out of 1027 teams in the New York region including the high school division.
“The concept of trade is the backbone of all great societies throughout time,” said Ms. Patricia Russac, who teaches Buckley’s Upper School history curriculum along with Mr. Mercer Hall. Financial literacy is an integral part of what we teach at Buckley. Teaching students how to connect these ideas with today’s global economy and the different market sectors fosters a genuine interest in learning through practical skills for life.”
Ms. Russac added that the Stock Market Game has a lasting effect on their approach to finance and economics. The online simulation of global capital markets is an educational program of the SIFMA Foundation for students in grades 4-12.
Nearly 600,000 students across 50 states take part every school year. Buckley students have participated in the game for over 14 years, and these winning teams add to the roster of the school’s successes playing the game.
Congratulations to all our students!
