The Hagedorn Library Learning Center is a beautiful, user-friendly facility that functions as the information center for exploration and knowledge. It is a place where students learn to love literature, and effectively process and use information in all formats. It provides a state-of-the-art multimedia room, enrichment room, additional classrooms, both Upper and Lower School book collections, a storytelling room filled with picture books and early childhood resources, a reference collection, and networked computers, including wireless laptops.

Students from nursery-fourth grade have a scheduled library class once a week. In the middle school, fifth and sixth grades, students meet for one period a week as part of a combined Library and Technology program. Students in seventh and eighth grades are scheduled by their teachers for independent research. In addition to scheduled classes, teachers plan library and computer time throughout the year for specific projects. We are recognized by New York State as an "Electronic Doorway Library" at the Leader Level, providing remote access to resources.

  • Mission

The mission of the Hagedorn Library Learning Center is to function as the information center for exploration and knowledge, a place where students learn to love literature, and effectively process and use information in all formats. Our job is to promote curiosity, reasoning, and questioning in a comfortable learning environment by helping students make connections with classroom learning, information skills, and personal experiences.

To fulfill this mission, we teach students the necessary skills through resource-based instruction in the context of curricular learning to find, analyze, and evaluate information. Our responsibility to the school community is to work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and parents to plan, implement, and evaluate the learning experience to ensure that all students become well informed, independent, lifelong learners.
  • Borrowing Information

Circulating books may be borrowed for a two-week period. Students need to bring them back to the library in order to renew books for another two weeks. Students with overdue books cannot charge out any books until all overdue items are returned. All books must be checked out through the electronic system by the library staff at the circulation desk, and may be returned at any time during the school day. Reserve books for class research projects must be used in the library. A student may borrow reserve books for overnight use, but it must be returned to the library at 8:30 a.m. the following morning.
  • Inter-Library Loan

Books, or articles, may be borrowed from another school, or local community library if we do not have it available in our collection. We are also electronically registered with the New York State Library System for inter-library loans. You can request an item by E-mailing the library. Inter-library loans take about two weeks.
