Buckley Sixth Graders Present Immigration Project

On Thursday, January 19, Buckley sixth graders presented their immigration projects to the school community, the culmination of their work in the second quarter in both History with Ms. Patricia Russac and English with Mrs. Marissa Chille. Parents, faculty, staff, and friends toured the Hagedorn Library and Learning Center, where students explained the many reasons for immigration and migration from a variety of countries worldwide.

Students each represented the immigration data from three different countries in 3D graphs, and did a deep-dive into one country's traditions to more fully understand the national culture. They also read the book Inside Out & Back Again by author Thanhha Lai, the story of a ten-year old girl who immigrates with her family to the United States to escape war-torn Vietnam. They represented a quote from the book in a piece of original artwork, and recorded a spoken-word recitation recounting the experiences of a refugee.

Congratulations to all the sixth grade students on their wonderful presentations, and thank you to Ms. Russac and Mrs. Chille for their collaboration to truly bring immigration stories to life for our students.
