Getting to Know the PA Co-Chairs!

Meet the 2017-18 Parents' Association Co-Chairs!
Each year, the Parents' Association (PA) at Buckley works together to help put on events for students, as well as connect Buckley families to one another and encourage families to be engaged in the school community. This year, the PA is led by PA President Cara Hershkowitz and Co-Vice Presidents Laura Ferrucci and Rochelle Edmonds. Read more below about this year's Co-Chairs and their expectations for the 2017-18 school year!

What is your position on the PA?

Cara Hershkowitz, Pa President: “I am currently the President of the Parent Association. I believe my job is to help facilitate community building and just be a bridge between school and home.”

Rochelle Edmonds, PA Co-Vice President: “My position on the PA is to serve as one of the two Co-chairs to the President, thus, making me a Co-Vice President. In  this position, I work alongside the Development Office, the PA President and fellow Co-VP to ensure that Buckley events and activities are well-coordinated and supported by the parents.”

Laura Ferrucci, PA Co-Vice President:I currently serve as one of the Co-VPs to the President of the PA. I believe our roll is to work alongside the administration to foster effective involvement and partnership between home and school.”

How long have you and your family been a part of the Buckley community?

Cara: “My son began Kindergarten at Buckley, so we have been here 6 years.”

Rochelle: “My family and I are new to Buckley. This school year marks the beginning of our second year at Buckley and so far so great!”

Laura: “This will be our third year at Buckley; my little one just started his first year at Buckley in the Toddler Program!”

How did you get involved in working for the PA?

Cara: “I started volunteering not long after we came to Buckley. I helped out at the school store and the Italian Table during the Fall Fair, then other events throughout the year.”

Rochelle: “Having three kids at Buckley, I knew it would be in my best interest to get involved. This is sooner than I'd anticipated, of course! It only made sense that once they were all finally settled in one place, under one school roof, (we were at multiple schools prior to Buckley) that I would volunteer my time and become a part of the community that was helping to foster certain goals for my children. I attended meetings and sought out various opportunities to help and support Buckley initiatives. Then, one day... the question was posed to me and my initial thoughts were "but I'm new here," "why me?," "but I'm too shy for a position like that," and the list went on. But after much thought and rationalizing I decided "why not!" And before I knew it, I was slowly, and quickly at the same time, being immersed in the Buckley community, all of what seems to be an overnight process.”

Laura: “I started volunteering our first week at Buckley as Nursery Class Parent! Our first year the Fall Fair was only weeks away after the start of school so I dove right in and was wrapping class baskets and auction items, and making lemonade! Buckley was so welcoming and there were so many chances to get involved that before I knew it, I was co-chairing the Buckley Store alongside Anna and Shabana.”

What are you most excited for this school year?

Cara: “I am most excited this year to see such enthusiasm amongst many of our newer families who have jumped right in! We’re a small community so it’s nice to see fresh faces looking to get involved and be part of the fabric of our school.”

Rochelle: “Looking forward to the school year ahead, I'm excited about the possibilities of becoming more involved and getting better acquainted with everyone. I'm excited about the Fall Fair and that I have first-hand involvement in all its going-ons.”

Laura: “I must say I  was excited for both my boys to be in school together! Being that this is Ollie's first year at Buckley, I was certainly excited that he was finally attending Buckley and getting to experience all the wonders it has to offer.  Lucas is in Kindergarten so we are very excited  for the Kindergarten Circus!!”

This weekend will be the 44th Annual Fall Fair. What is your favorite part of the Fall Fair?

Cara: “My favorite part of the Fall Fair is the Fair itself. There is such excitement throughout the weekend amongst the children and their families, as well as faculty who come to enjoy the festivities as well. I love the tradition!!”

Rochelle: “My favorite part about the Fall Fair is the Kick-off Party because it gives us adults a chance to have good old clean fun without the kids. That's always a plus.”

Laura:My favorite part about the Fall Fair is seeing all the hard work come to fruition!! Knowing that a community came together to create this awe-inspiring weekend of festivities is truly amazing.”
