Buckley Takes First and Second at Stock Market Game
Buckley students once again proved that they are FinTech Savvy, by taking first and second place in the elementary division of the Stock Market Game, sponsored by the SIFMA Foundation. The first place team of Giselle Chan, Cory Hershkowitz, and Tyler Timmers built a strong portfolio with 17.50% gain on the S&P. Meanwhile, the second place team of Isabella Lubczenko, Christian McFarlane, and John Sullivan were close behind making 14.61% over the S&P.
This was the first time these fifth graders participated in the Stock Market Game and they took it by storm, researching and investing to carefully diversify their portfolios to avoid downturns in any one particular industry. They navigated through a super active stock market rally this fall while learning new FinTech terms such as cryptocurrency, blockchain, and tokens.
“They were fascinated with trying to understand how Bitcoins work. After all, they could be the generation that operates in an ever increasing cashless society," said Ms. Russac. "This exposure to relevant, real-world financial markets will no doubt have a lasting effect on how they approach finance, economics, and ultimately their own investments. All in all, we think they are well primed for the future."
