Dear Parents, Faculty, and Staff,
Let me first thank all of you for your cooperation through these trying times. When I set aside the anxiety we are experiencing, I take joy in witnessing how our community is responding diligently to the steps the school is taking to ensure the safety of its members and at the same time preserve a healthy sense of normalcy for the children. When this is all over, I know we will be able to say that this experience brought the best out of our community.
After consulting with the Nassau County Health Department I was advised that it was not necessary for Buckley to close at this time. Therefore, we will remain open unless we are advised otherwise.
In case we had to close, our distance learning plan will go into effect two days after the beginning of the closing. Before the end of the week, children in grades K-4 will bring home packets including materials for reading, writing, and math. Students in grades 3 and 4 will bring home their iPads as well. Early Childhood teachers will provide materials to parents. In the Upper School, students were instructed to take home the following:
- Chromebook and charger
- All books for reading (English class text(s), book clubs, foreign language novels, etc.)
- Notebooks for academic subjects
- Foreign language and English vocabulary workbooks
- Calculator for math
All academic textbooks should already be stored at home.
Please find below more information about upcoming events:
Dads’ Basketball: cancelled
Community Adult Volleyball Clinic: cancelled
Boston trip, 8th grade trip, Grandparents’ and Special Friends' Day: too early to tell. We will reassess as the situation evolves.
I look forward to sending you communication unrelated to this health crisis in the very near future.
