I am writing to give you an update on the measures we are continuing to take regarding the spread of the coronavirus:
- We are now doing a deep clean of the building every weekend. We have hired an additional person to clean toys, blocks, and other shared materials with Lysol.
- We are making sure that children wash their hands with soap or Purell at specific times during the day (when they come in in the morning, before lunch, etc.).
- Teachers are being trained this week and next in the use of the Google Meet platform, and we will also test it with students in school.
Understandably, there is growing anxiety among children about this new virus. They are always watching us, the adults, and in general, they model their behavior and reaction after ours. It is important that we not increase their fears by projecting our own on them. I recommend that we share simple, age-appropriate facts about the situation we are addressing and monitor the sources they use to get information; emphasize what they can do to help themselves and their community (handwashing, not sharing water bottles, etc.); and most critically, remind them that they are safe, since they are young, have access to excellent healthcare, and are surrounded by adults who are taking the necessary precautions to keep them healthy.
I will continue to update you about what we are doing as this situation evolves.
Have a good night.
