Dear Parents, Alumni, Faculty, and Staff,
On this Veterans Day Buckley would like to say Thank You to all the Buckley Veterans, alumni, friends, and families, for their courage and their service to our country.
Last Friday, our school community paid tribute to all our Veterans in an assembly dedicated to Specialist John Robinson of the 82nd Airborne Division currently deployed to Afghanistan. Specialist Robinson is the son of former Buckley teacher, Rita Robinson, and the brother of Buckley Kindergarten teacher Kathryn Downing. As part of "Operation Gratitude" our students have written letters of gratitude to servicemen and women and have sent care packages to US troops serving far away from home. This year, they will all be sent to the 82nd Airborne Division where John Robinson is serving.
At the assembly, several grandparents and a parent (Mr. Topel’s dad) were recognized by their grandchildren and son, thanked for their service, and presented with a pin. Two speakers, United States Army Sergeant Jim Brooks and Sergeant First Class JamesKernan, grandfather of Genevieve ‘30, shared their experience with our students.
Fourth graders then explained the meaning and the history of Veterans Day to the rest of the school and sang God Bless America under the direction of Dr. Glennon. Please click here to view pictures of the assembly and here for a video.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs. Lyons for organizing this moving tribute to our Veterans reminding us of the true meaning of this weekend. I would also like to thank all the Veterans who were able to attend our assembly and John Robinson for their service to our country.
Let's all thank our Veterans today and every day.
