Buckley Country Day School has been an affiliate school of Columbia University Teachers College Advancing Literacy project since the 2010-2011 school year. “Our teachers and administrators now have access to the unparalleled resources and think-tank provided by one of the world’s most highly-regarded graduate schools of education.” says Head of School Dr. Jean-Marc Juhel.

The purpose of the Teachers College's Advancing Literacy project is to support literacy instruction in grades K-8 through research and professional development.

As part of the network of Teachers College affiliate schools, Buckley is able to take advantage of the following:
  • A Teachers College consultant provides on-site professional development for Buckley teachers.
  • Buckley teachers are eligible to attend conference days at Teachers College throughout the year to support their work in reading, writing, content-area literacy, and data-based assessment at specific grade levels. The day-long workshops are staffed by national literacy leaders.
  • Workshops are offered for parents that give them the opportunity to listen to experts in literacy education and learn how to support their children's growth in reading and writing.
  • Teachers are given access to an interactive website that the Project offers in support of our reading and writing curriculum.
  • A Buckley school administrator also has the opportunity to attend workshops on new initiatives and information in the field of literacy education and school leadership, and become part of a study group with other school leaders.
